When we set out to create our canopy tile collection, we knew that beautiful design wasn't enough on its own. True innovation requires us to rethink the entire lifecycle of a product. Here is how we applied cutting-edge sustainability principles directly into the DNA of our canopy tiles:

Design for Disassembly (DfD)

A major roadblock to zero waste is that products are often glued or welded together, making recovery impossible.  Design for Disassembly treats a building or product as a "material bank" rather than a permanent fixture. By utilizing interlocking tabs, our tiles can be easily installed, taken down, and reconfigured. When a space is ready for a redesign, the tiles aren't destined for the landfill. They can be effortlessly disassembled, cleanly separated, and fully recovered or repurposed.

Efficiency Through "Nesting" and Pattern Optimization

In product design, waste often happens before the product even leaves the factory floor. Zero waste design uses computational nesting to eliminate off-cuts. The striking, organic shapes of our canopy tiles aren't just visually appealing. They are mathematically optimized. Before a single blade or laser touches our raw materials, advanced software strategically "nests" the canopy tile profiles together on the manufacturing sheet like a perfectly solved puzzle. This hyper-efficient layout virtually eliminates negative space and off-cuts, ensuring that all material is utilized and factory-floor waste is stopped before it even starts.

Canopy is a collaboration with Peter Dahmen, both designer and paper artist.

Experience the restorative power of the outdoors without leaving your desk. The Canopy acoustical ceiling system is designed to replicate the dappled light and organic geometry of a lush forest ceiling. By mimicking the intricate layering of leaves from overhanging branches, Canopy transforms the ceiling into a living landscape.

Each panel features interlocking "leaf" patterns that catch light and shadow, creating a dynamic visual that shifts as you move through the room.

Drop the tiles into any 9/16” or 15/16” tee- grid.

The Biophilic Benefit: Why it Matters

Biophilia is our innate human instinct to connect with nature. It’s at the core of the Canopy design. Research shows that integrating natural patterns (biomorphic forms) into our built environments leads to:

  • Stress Reduction: Natural, leaf-like patterns evoke the feeling of being outdoors, helping to lower cortisol levels and promote a sense of calm.

  • Cognitive Clarity: The "Canopy Effect" provides a sense of enclosure and safety (prospect and refuge), which helps improve focus and creative problem-solving.

  • Visual Comfort: The diffused, "dappled" light reflected off the panels reduces harsh glare, mimicking the soothing light of a forest floor.

Slight variations in color should be expected when using this material. We recommend requesting a sample to verify colors.

Our latest cork patterns bring a natural warmth and refined texture to acoustical design. Each surface highlights cork’s unique grain, organic variation, and tactile softness—creating patterns that feel both timeless and modern.
