Hilo designed in collaboration with paper-folding artist Peter Dahman translates complex folding geometry into high-performance interior architecture.

The modular, three-dimensional profile interlocks to form a continuous, undulating ceiling plane that optimizes the interplay of ambient light and architectural shadow. Beyond its visual impact, this geometric topography serves a critical acoustic purpose. The faceted surfaces act as diffusers to scatter incident sound waves, while the porous substrate provides targeted absorption to significantly reduce reverberation times. The result is a sophisticated synthesis of aesthetic form and acoustic function, designed to transform highly reverberant environments into optimized, balanced spaces.

Drop the tiles into any 9/16” or 15/16” tee- grid.

Hilo Layout

While the Hilo tile can be laid out in several ways, for optimal texture and pattern, the tiles should be arranged with an alternating orientation as shown in this image. By rotating the direction of the raised profile on each adjacent tile, this layout creates a dynamic, undulating surface. The purposeful contrast between the high ridges and low edges maximizes shadow play, transforming a flat plane into a bold, architectural focal point.

Hilo Lit

The illuminated version of our Hilo tile seamlessly integrates light into the design, transforming the ceiling into both a lighting element and an architectural feature. Directional lighting grazes the angled faces of the tile, casting deep, crisp shadows into the recessed valleys while brilliantly highlighting the raised peaks. This high-contrast interplay of light and dark amplifies the undulating, woven effect of the alternating layout, transforming the surface into a dynamic architectural sculpture that visually shifts as you move through the space.

Our latest printed cork patterns bring a natural warmth and refined texture to acoustical design. Each surface highlights cork’s unique grain, organic variation, and tactile softness—creating patterns that feel both timeless and modern.
